This article aims to identify the formal and substantial properties common to the prefaces, eight in number, written by Camus for books dedicated to testifying for political causes apparently lost at the time he wrote them : Republican Spain, Jewish Palestine, the Hungarian revolt, etc … Camus uses a scathing irony to denounce the supporters of Reason of State (la raison d’État) and their accomplices ; he praises the witnesses who report the fight of those who remain faithful to the cause without losing hope and finally addresses the silent majority to emerge from the torpor that the powerful benefit from
