Execution patternsare a new m etaphorforvisualizing execution traces of object-oriented program s. W e present an execution pattern view that lets a program m er visualize and explore a program's execution at varied levels of abstraction. The view em ploys visual,navigational,and analytical techniques thataccom m odate lengthy,real-w orld traces.By classifying repetitive behaviorautom atically into high-orderexecution patterns,w e drastically reduce the inform ation a program m erm ust assim ilate,w ith little lossofinsight.
