Abstract
The 21st century is characterized by a variety of technologies, increasingly
becoming an integral part of every area of human life. Education systems in
Israel and all over the world embraced various digital technologies, aiming to
improve learning and teaching processes and making them suitable for the
digital age. One of the models for integrating technologies in education is
one-to-one computing (1:1), in which every student learns with a personal
technological device. This case study examines the effects of the 1:1
computing through network computers - Chromebooks on the development
of digital literacy skills of students, as defined by the Digital Literacy model
(Eshet-Alkalai, 2012). The study took place at an elementary school in
northern Israel, which integrates Chromebooks in teaching-learning
processes. Questionnaires were administrated at the beginning and the end of
the school year. In addition, semi-structured interviews with teachers and
focus groups with students were conducted throughout the year. As a result
of learning through the 1:1 model, the findings indicated the improvement of
students' digital literacy competences, mainly information thinking skills.
Keywords: one-to-one computing, Chromebook, digital literacy skills.
