Abstract

The thermal decomposition of MgBr2· 6HOH (non- and partly dried) was studied by DTA, TG, DTG, IR. X-ray diffraction and chemical determinations of Mg and Br. The reactions which occurred in the course of the thermal analysis were Identified as dehydration, melting of hydrous salts, thermal hydrolysis and dehydrobromidization. Although several reactions may occur simultaneously, each endothermic peak in the DTA curve could be related to a certain thermal reaction. MgO was the end product of the thermal treatment.
