Abstract
Presenting the notion of musical cosmopolitanism, this position paper sets out to assert poprock music as its prominent manifestation. A characterization of the cultural realm of pop-rock music is followed by a discussion of three of its major dimensions: the logic of innovation and mainstreaming; the global proliferation of national scenes and fields of pop-rock; and the effect of pop-rock on bodies and sonic environments.
