Abstract

Discussing challenges involves some knowledge of future trends. Can one say anything about the future of computer science? Can one predict the future of computing generally? In the September issue of Communication of the ACM [1] in his column The Profession of IT, Peter Denning relates to this question and concludes by saying: "Don't feel bad if you can't predict the future". Following this encouragement I will not predict the future in my presentation, but rather describe the current situation of computing education, the challenges we are facing at the moment, and concerns we share worldwide. This very short paper presents in a nutshell the main issues that were brought up in the presentation, including the main references containing more information related to the discussed issues.
