Abstract
In 2006 I was awarded the SIGCSE Award for Outstanding Contribution to Computer Science Education - a milestone in my professional career. In my keynote presentation I thanked my family, teachers, colleagues, and university. From a professional perspective, I mentioned issues that were challenging at the time, among them: • placing computer science on a par with other sciences within school systems, • increasing the number of women interested in computing disciplines, and • recruiting well-educated, enthusiastic teachers certified to teach the discipline.
