Abstract

Presents and analyzes the Palestinian national movement's stance toward fascism and Nazism as reflected in the main Palestinian Arabic newspapers during the period of dominance of these ideologies in Europe. States that the manifold attitudes voiced by the Palestinian movement were influenced by international politics, by the stances of fascism and Nazism in Italy and Germany, and by events in Palestine. The initial appeal of the two ideologies was replaced by disappointment and animosity toward the representative powers, since they were disinclined to provide the support expected by the Palestinians in their fight against Zionism and for Palestine. Unlike Amin al-Husaini, the Mufti of Jerusalem, none of the public figures of the Palestinian national movement supported fascism and Nazism unconditionally.
