N2 - It is shown that although thermoluminescence (TL) is generally more reliable than phosphorescence (PP) in evaluating trap parameters, the latter might be useful for investigating the connection between two spectral bands that seem to have the same kinetic parameters. This is demonstrated by studying the blue and red bands in the X‐excited PP of the feldspar albite. The results indicate that at least part of the red luminescence is independent of the blue one. It is suggested that the blue emission results from the recombination of thermally released electrons with hole centres, while the red band is attributed to the recombination of holes with Fe2+ ions.
