Latin Middle Ages

This chapter discusses the way in which distributive-like properties appear in works belonging to the Latin medieval tradition of the Elements. This includes the Liber Mahamaleth, known for its direct influence on important works in the algorismus tradition, such as Fibonacci’s Practica Geometrie and Sacrobosco’s Algorismus vulgaris. The chapter also discusses the treatment of arithmetic rules in the works of Jordanus Nemorarius and Campanus de Novara.
