Convergence acceleration as a computational assignment

This article treats methods of accelerating the convergence of infinite series, in a way appropriate for a mathematical-educational laboratory. The acceleration methods of Kummer and Euler as well as a method based on an approximate recursion relation are presented, using only rudimentary concepts from calculus. The actual reduction of the number of terms needed to achieve a desired accuracy is vividly demonstrated via runs on a typical laboratory microcomputer.
