ملخص
Chaim L. Pekeris was a visionary scientist-entrepreneur and broad-minded, versatile applied mathematician. He convinced the leadership of the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot to embark on the unlikely project of building an electronic, high-speed computer in the newly created State of Israel. He led the project to completion and undertook the task of approaching complex scientific questions in various fields. He came up with ground-breaking results based on the use of WEIZAC and thus led the creation of the technical and human infrastructure on which the computer culture was to thrive in Israel in the forthcoming decades.
